PIOPIO
Each year students in year 8 from Parnell District School
travel to Piopio to spend a week living in a rural community and year 7
students from Piopio visit Parnell to
see what city life is like. This exchange has been an annual event for over 30
years. Children are billeted with local
families but come to school each day and venture into the local area for day
trips. Piopio is a village 20 minutes from Te Kuiti on the road to New
Plymouth, just past the turn off to Tongariro National Park.
This year Parnell students are heading to Piopio on Tuesday
29th October, leaving school at 7.30am and visiting the Waitomo caves, museum and local
parks on the way to Piopio. While in Piopio they will visit a number of farms
during day trips and experience the life of country students. On the journey
back to Auckland on Friday 1st of November we will visit the Otorohanga Kiwi House
and take part in a couple of other activities, arriving at school approx.
2.30pm. I know that some of the year 8 students are looking forward to being
billeted with the families of the students that they hosted last year.
When the Piopio students visit Parnell – they will need to
be billeted with local families – both year 7 & 8 students. Billet families
need to provide a bed/ camp bed or airbed is fine, and a packed lunch daily. You do not need to
be a tour guide – but involve your visiting student in the normal daily events
of your household.
Further information will be sent out about this in a
specific letter.
SPEECHES-
Yes we are having syndicate speech competitions – with the winner
competing in the Rotary Speech event .
We look forward to another busy learning term –

MacRae, Melanie Barr and John Jugenheimer
